Book reviewers (and jacket copy writers, PR people, grant writers, speech writers...) frequently rely on recycled phrases to "cut to the chase" and quickly "get to the heart of the matter". And while many clichés can make light work, this short piece from the Bygone Bureau suggests a few alternatives for book reviewers to employ before they simply mail it in with yet another tired cliché.
