  • A Video Game Jimmy Hoffa Will Love

First it was “take these son-of-a-bitches out.” Now it’s “Tea Party Zombies Must Die.”

On the heels of Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa’s attacks on the Tea Party (“We are at war!”), the Media Research Center points out a new online video game in which you, too, can blow the heads off of Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Fox News anchors, the Koch brothers, and many others.

Look, I don’t get too exercised about isolated examples of “uncivil discourse.” It’s all too common to see conservatives in general blamed for the rhetoric or actions of a misguided individual or group. But cases like that of Hoffa or the “Tea Party Zombies Must Die” video game remind us how empty—and politically motivated—most calls for “civil discourse” end up being. The White House has refused even to gently reprimand Hoffa, and the Teamsters president himself has defiantly declared that he will “never apologize” for his remarks.

And just think, we’re still fourteen months away from the presidential election. It’s going to be a long slog.
